Theories for Life / for relationships
The Greenhouse Theory
Imagine every relationship has its own climate.
Some people feel like sunlight. Some feel like fresh air. Some feel like a place you can finally breathe.
And some people… make it really hard for you to grow.
Not because you’re weak. Not because you’re broken. Not because you’re too hard to love.
But because growth requires the right conditions.
Some people only love the version of you that needs less.
And after a while, you start mistaking survival for love.
You tell yourself, “If I were healthier, this wouldn’t hurt so much.”
But maybe the problem isn’t that you aren’t growing.
Maybe you’re trying to bloom somewhere without enough light.
You can water yourself. You can work on yourself. You can do everything “right” and still wilt in the wrong environment.
Healing doesn’t mean learning how to survive somewhere that keeps hurting you.
The right environment won’t make growth effortless. But it won’t shame you for needing care.
It won’t call you needy for needing sunlight.
Some people aren’t villains. They’re just not safe climates for you.
Leaving doesn’t always mean you gave up too soon. Sometimes leaving is how you finally grow.
You were never too much. You were just planted somewhere too small for who you were becoming.
